Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate and understand the role of the insurance biller by following Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) procedures, and the rules and regulations to ensure privacy of medical claims information and protected health information.  Additionally, the course will cover training on performing billing and collections tasks for patients treated in outpatient and inpatient settings and on selecting appropriate treatment and diagnostic codes for the preparation of claims to be sent to insurance companies (paper and electronically) for reimbursement of services.  The student will also learn how to bill commercial, private, HMO/PPO, Federal and State insurance plans, including eligibility, coverage and reimbursement methodologies.  Learn to perform tasks associated with accounts receivable and revenue cycle.  Enrollment in this course includes 24/7 access to web-based medical billing software that will be used to set-up a mock medical practice by creating a database with all pertinent information necessary to process paper and electronic claims, and run practice management reports. Prerequisite, ability to understand English and basic computer/internet skills.The $100 materials fee is included in the cost of the course. MANDATORY ONLINE ORIENTATION REQUIRED AT
